Muzuri Growers Limited farm is located in Kitengei “A” Settlement Scheme within Kathekani Location, Mtito Andei Division, Kibwezi District in Makueni County, Kenya. The farm lies to the south of River Athi. Kitengei Settlement Scheme is an agricultural area, approximately 250 kilometers to the Southeastern side of Nairobi City. Access to the farm from the tar surfaced Mombasa Road is via a northerly earth/murrum surfaced road at Machinery town. Machinery town lies along the tar surfaced Nairobi-Mombasa Road, approximately 210 kilometers to the south-eastern side of Nairobi’s City centre. From Machinery Town, one heads North via the earth surfaced road that passes through Ngwata, Kativani, Yionguni and Athi Salama before arriving at the farm. The farm is situated on the eastern side of the main access road at its end point on River Athi. River Athi borders the northern boundary of the farm.
The parcels of land are developed with a horticultural farm that specializes in production of fruit and vegetables. The area in which the farm lies experiences inadequate rainfall to support crop cultivation hence, among other methods of irrigation, drip irrigation is widely used on the farm. 60% of the farm is fully under drip irrigation. The water for
irrigation is pumped from River Athi and supplemented by water from 2 bore holes on the farm. To facilitate operation of the horticultural enterprise, the farm is developed with several buildings, greenhouses, shade nets and
reservoirs.
Water is pumped from River Athi into reservoirs on the farm. The farm also has 2 bore holes, 1 of which use manual water pump while the other uses an electric pump.
